What ISO 9001 Certification Actually Means

ISO 9001 defines a quality management system built on the plan do check act cycle, documented processes, clear responsibility and continual improvement. Certification is issued by independent auditors, not by ISO itself, usually after a document review and an on site audit.

The certificate does not prove a product is excellent, only that a certified process exists and is followed. Even so, more than a million organizations in nearly every country hold it, and many supply chains require it before a first order.
