ASCII
About ASCII
American Standard Code for Information Interchange, first published in 1963 and refined in 1968, assigned 7 bit codes to 128 letters, digits and symbols. Its ordering shaped keyboards, protocols and programming languages, and every modern text encoding keeps ASCII as a subset.
