Hypertext Transfer Protocol, devised by Tim Berners-Lee around 1990, moves web resources between browsers and servers. HTTP/1.1 arrived in 1997, HTTP/2 added multiplexing in 2015, and HTTP/3 over QUIC transport became RFC 9114 in 2022.
