NPT Pipe Thread
About NPT Pipe Thread
The tapered National Pipe Thread descends from the 19th century Briggs standard of the American engineer Robert Briggs. Its taper of 1 in 16 on diameter wedges threads together so pipe joints seal with tape or compound. Now specified in ASME B1.20.1, it remains the default plumbing thread in North America.
