About H.264 AVC
The video compression landmark developed jointly by the ITU and ISO MPEG committees. H.264 roughly halved bitrate needs versus MPEG 2, enabling Blu-ray, streaming video and video calls. It still encodes the large majority of internet video and won its inventors a Primetime Engineering Emmy.
