IEEE 754
About IEEE 754
The standard for binary floating point arithmetic, produced by an IEEE committee led by William Kahan. It defined formats, rounding, infinity and not a number values, ending the era of incompatible machine arithmetic. Nearly every processor, from microcontrollers to supercomputers, implements it, and the 2008 revision added decimal formats.
