About SMPTE Timecode
The hours, minutes, seconds and frames labeling adopted by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers to synchronize tape machines and editors, based on work by Leo O'Donnell at the National Film Board of Canada. Edits, color grades and sound mixes in film and television still run on its eight digit count.
